Jay Stelling is a doll maker, storyteller and illustrator. She uses paper mache, wire and mixed media to create one of a kind art dolls which have been published in Art Doll Quarterly and Dolls House and Miniature Scene Magazine.
Growing up in the small, historic city of Ripon, Jay found a love for the rural scenery and folk legends of Yorkshire. Entranced by Cicely Mary Barker’s ‘Flower Fairies’ and Jim Henson’s 1986 film ‘Labyrinth’, she has been imagining her own mystical lands since childhood and refuses to leave these charming dreams behind. Her dolls are physical illustrations, described as characters that have stepped off the page of a story book.
Jay specialises in fairies and mythical creatures, but also creates custom portrait dolls which she sells through Etsy. Her dolls have found new homes across the globe from America to Australia.
Jay recently graduated from Leeds Arts University with a First in Illustration.
